Saundersfoot and Tenby

A few days away in one of our favourite places.  We stayed on a campsite in New Hedges right in the middle between Saundersfoot and Tenby and a lovely walk into both.

Saundersfoot harbour was used to transport coal from the small Pembrokeshire coalfield and you can still walk the old tramways that pass through the cliffs in the background of the picture below.

Tenby below is attractive to many visitors and some from Germany came in this wonderful Volkswagon.

The clean beaches and a harbour thats been photographed and painted many times.

Those colourful houses were designed by Nash.

The port goes back to the Middle Ages and this is the garden of Tenby's oldest house, The Merchants House, built in Tudor times.

The stretch of the South Beach  which was used for practising the D Day landings as its very similar to the Normandy beaches.

St Catherines Island with its fort.  Can you remember P J Proby
well it was rumoured that he wanted to buy this in the late 60's.

Some of the lanes.

  1. I'm surprised there aren't more people on that beautiful beach.

  2. Barbara, remember this is Wales, and the weather, even though we have some sunny days has been unseasonably cold.

  3. Hadn't seen a old VW like that in ages, the last time I seen one it was being pulled out of the sand on fiesta Island ages ago. That beach looks inviting being with hardly anyone on it, wish that was so here even in the winter months.
